Pretoria, South Africa’s executive capital

Paul Kruger statue

The statue of Paul Kruger, the last president of the old Transvaal (Zuid Afrikaanse Republiek) on Church Square (Kerkplein) in Pretoria. It was erected in 1953 and now has been fenced off after vandalism. Behind is the Ou Raadsaal (Old Council Hall) that housed the Volksraad, the parliament of the South African Republic, from 1891 to 1902.
